Versature wins Small Biz of the Year at the OBAA’s!

This post is a little late in getting out because to be honest, I’m still a little bit in shock at winning. To be clear, Versature was nominated by our accountants and competed in the Small Business of the Year category of which there were dozens of entries, and 14 strong finalists from across the city of Ottawa. We had a luncheon a couple of weeks ago and I was impressed with the stories I heard about all these cool businesses and their successes.

The mandate of the OBAA’s is to highlight growing, innovative companies that demonstrate great customer service and corporate social responsibility standards in the Ottawa area. Other OBAA Small Biz of the Year finalists included Ottawa General Contractors, Accu-Rate Corporation, Competition Composites, GPS to Go, YOUi Labs, & Phirelight Security Solutions among others.

During the evaluation process, while I was filling out the online survey, I felt we had a pretty good story to tell. 1100% growth over the past 5 years (that’s over 10x), and 40% growth year over year. We have over 400 small to mid-size customers now from across the country, and do all of our sales and support from our office on Canotek Road, right here on the East side of this great city of Ottawa. I talked about our backyard BBQs and our foosball tournaments. I wrote about our involvement with the Ottawa Fringe Festival and the other charitable initiatives we support. All good stuff, but was it what the judges were looking for? Turns out it was.

I’m so proud that I was able to highlight the accomplishments of our great Versature family and that we were recognized as Small Business of the Year by our Entrepreneurial peers during Global Entrepreneurship Week here in Ottawa. A great achievement by our team.

Congratulations to the other category winners which included :

  1. Halogen Software – Company of the Year
  2. Veritaaq IT Consulting – Mid-Market Company of the Year
  3. Versature – Small Business of the Year
  4. AVW-TELAV Audio Visual Solutions – Professional Services of the Year
  5. Tinder Solutions Inc. – New Business of the Year
